RSPCA ask for pumpkins to be feed to wildlife, in 2019 they released this news statement to encourage you to leave the left overs in your garden in a bowl or on a plate for animals to come and eat. Read here for great information.
PIGS LOVE PUMPKINS
Contact your local animal farmers who own pigs and chickens, these two animals love them as a healthy treat. Drop your left over pumpkins for them to eat!
CHICKENS LOVE A PUMPKIN
Turn old pumpkins into a rich soil amendment for next season’s vegetable garden. Cut the gourds into small pieces and either add them to the compost pile or bury them in a trench dug right into the garden bed.
Cut up the leftovers of your pumpkin – this will speed up composting time – and add it to the pile! If you don’t have a compost pile already thriving, it’s all about a balance of brown (leaves, wood chips) and green (grass trimmings, kitchen waste) plant matter get one started.
