Chris Ramsey and the Pole to Pole Expedition are excited to welcome Shackleton as the official performance apparel partner of the expedition. The British adventurer is set to embark on one of his greatest journeys yet, starting in March 2023, he will be the first person to ever travel from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole in an electric vehicle, driving an all-electric Nissan Ariya. Shackleton, named after the iconic explorer Ernest Shackleton, is a performance and technical apparel company specialising in expertly-engineered extreme weather protection.

Pole to Pole will see Ramsey traverse 17,000 miles across 14 countries in North, Central and South America before the final push to the South Pole in Antarctica. The expedition will raise awareness of the important role that electric vehicles can play in combating climate change as well as the broader impacts of climate change on the planet – particularly in the vital polar regions. Temperatures on the expedition are predicted to range from -30⁰C to 30⁰C, highlighting the need for robust, high-performance clothing to keep the expedition safe and comfortable.

As part of the new partnership, Shackleton will be providing the Pole to Pole team with its latest technical range, including innovations derived from other polar expeditions.

Shackleton’s environmental conservation efforts also match Ramsey’s ambitions, with the company having this year launched the inaugural Shackleton Medal for the Protection of the Polar Regions. The brand was awarded “Best Winter Jacket” by T3, in 2020 and 2021, for the Endurance Parka and Antarctic Protector Parka respectively.

This is not the first time Ramsey has embarked on an electric vehicle expedition, bringing over a decade of electric vehicle adventure experience. In 2017, Ramsey and his wife, Julie, became the first team to ever complete the Mongol Rally in an EV, travelling 10,000 miles through 20 countries in 56 days driving from Goodwood Racing Circuit in the UK to Siberia.

Chris Ramsey, Founder of Pole to Pole Expedition, said: “Given the range of extreme temperatures and weather conditions that we are sure to encounter, as well as the unpredictable nature of such ambitious journeys, it is essential that we are equipped with the right clothing. Thanks to the technical and engineering innovations behind Shackleton’s clothing, our expedition team will remain safe and comfortable in some of the most inhospitable conditions on earth. We are thrilled to have Shackleton on board – not least because they are named after the leading figure in exploration and someone I have admired greatly from a young age! My ambition is to follow in his footsteps, building upon his legacy with a new type of sustainable exploration.

“Pole to Pole is all about raising awareness of the impact we are having on the planet and the need to be more conscious of the choices we make. We are particularly proud to be working alongside Shackleton given their long-time commitment to sustainable and environmental causes – including habitat protection in the Antarctic.”

Martin Brooks, CEO and Co-Founder of Shackleton, said: “In 1908, Sir Ernest Shackleton was the first person in history to put a car onto the Antarctic continent. If he were alive today, he wouldn’t be exploring the poles, he’d be protecting them. Shackleton is proud to support this daring expedition and the vitally important cause it represents.”
