Sustainable British water brand partners with UK and England Athletics

Water in a Box, the sustainable and responsible British boxed water brand has announced its partnership with UK and England Athletics.

The partnership will see Water in a Box named as the official water partner for events taking place over the summer from mid May until the end of August, providing 30,000 cartons of water across nine sporting events.

Commercial Director of Water in a Box, Karl Martin said: “It is a very exciting moment for Water in a Box to be collaborating with such huge sporting organisations.

“In an ideal world, we would all have a reusable water bottle but often at sporting events that’s not always possible. We started Water in a Box to offer a better alternative to plastic bottles. It isn’t perfect, but our cartons have the lowest carbon footprint of all drinks containers and are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.”

UK Athletics is the National Governing Body for the sport of athletics in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. England Athletics is the country’s leading development agency for running and athletics, supporting participation from playground to podium. With over 1,650 affiliated clubs and organisations, England Athletics strives to support grassroots athletes and nurture future talent through education, activities, clubs, mentoring and competitions.

England Athletics Chief Executive, Chris Jones said: “We are delighted to welcome Water in a Box to the England Athletics family as our Official Water Partner. Their commitment to delivering sustainable packaging, made solely of responsibly-sourced, renewable or recycled materials, which is fully recyclable and carbon-neutral aligns with our aim to support reduction of plastic use at all our events.

“This forms part of our broader commitment to support the sustainability journey of our clubs and RunTogether groups, as well as athletes, coaches and officials.”

The partnership will be kicked off with the first event being held on 28-29th May 2022 for the England Athletics National Champs Combined Seniors and U20s at Bedford.

This will be followed by the World Athletics Tour Event in Manchester which will be held on 3rd June 2022.

Water in a Box is a widely recyclable plastic alternative made from renewable cardboard that is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. It uses British spring water sourced from deep within the Mendip Hills in Somerset and is available in natural spring along with three fruity flavoured waters Strawberry, Lemon & Lime and Orange & Peach.

Water in a Box was launched in 2014 when one of the founders was inspired to make a change after coming face to face with the sheer amount of plastic being dumped into our oceans.

Its mission is simple; to repackage spring water into something that is better for the environment, better for our health and accessible to everyone.
